SKI ACROSS NORDICS 2027

Border to Border ski tour across three Nordic countries 7-21 March 2027

Welcome to an unforgettable 15-day ski tour through the beautiful landscapes of Lapland!

The tour starts from the Russian border in Salla (FIN). On the Finnish side, you will ski for eight days and pass Savukoski, Pyhätunturi, Sodankylä and Levi before you reach the Swedish border in Muonio. The Swedish part is six days and includes such as Vittangi, Kiruna and the beautiful wilderness areas of Abisko and Riksgränsen. The last day of skiing is on the Norwegian side along mountain valleys.

You can also ski half the distance: Salla – Muonio (8 days) or Muonio – Narvik (7 days).
This tour continues also the legacy of ”Border to border – skitour” in Finland, which is not organized anymore. But now you can continue up to shores of Atlantic Ocean.

During the ski days, you will enjoy skiing 100% and only carry your own daypack – the service vehicle will transport your other equipment to the next accommodation.

ROUTE
On this ski tour we follow mostly official snowmobile routes and make use of the existing XC-ski trail network where available (Pyhä-Luosto & Levi-Äkäslompolo-Muonio). A snowmobile drives ahead of the group, pulling a snow groomer. A skiing guide skis with group and another snowmobile drives at the end of the group for our safety.

The entire route is approx. 825km long and the average daily section is approx. 55km.
The Finnish section is a total of approx. 450km and the Sweden+Norway section is approx. 375km.
The elevation differences on the route are mainly very moderate.

ACCOMMODATION
During the ski tour we will overnight in hotels, resorts and cottages (mainly 2-4 person per room) and one night at homestay. Single room availability is very limited.
Linen etc. are always provided – no need to bring your own sleeping bag etc.
Most accommodations have sauna.

WHO IS THIS SKI TOUR SUITABLE FOR?
This is not a competition. During the days, you will ski in small groups or you can also ski alone.
The fitness requirement is that you can ski long distances for several consecutive days at a speed of about 8-10 km/h (taking into account weather and snow conditions). If you are an active sportsman/woman and ski at least 300 km per year, we believe you will enjoy this tour. On most days, it is also possible to ski only part of the section. It is also possible to ride by service van, if you feel ”not so strong” some day (limited number of seats).
Note! Weather and snow conditions can vary a lot during the tour. Ski tracks groomed onto  snowmobile tracks are not always the same level as the ones at XC ski resorts you might be used to train.

EQUIPMENT
Skiing is done with normal XC-skis (no extra wide forest skis, etc.). Some days you can also use free style technic (skating), but traditional style skis are most suitable. Larger baskets in poles are recommended in several sections. Participants will be sent a more detailed equipment list before the trip.
